Caramel Custard

Say hello to the caramel custard that inspired me to write this short story!

It always amuses me to think how lucky I am. Being able to sit at my favorite restaurant and wait to taste my beloved Caramel Custard! I can’t help but wonder where I’d have been if I missed this precious historical juncture.

Maybe I’d be toiling in mud, fighting invisible enemies in the jungle? Or perhaps I’d be persecuted on a cross for making jokes? Or shaking hands with Abraham Lincoln? Why… I might not have been a human after all!

I might have been an ancient rabbit being chased by a T-Rex across the vast vast earth until I was… maybe… cooked by an asteroid. Or perhaps I might have been a mosquito tasting on.. on.. yew. I don’t want to be those tiny vampires.

It’s about time, the table is clean. The fork and spoon are shining like diamonds and my ceramic plate glows like ivory.  And those tissues, wow how clean they are. As if washed, cleaned, and ironed properly and dressed and combed by experts. Gentle folks those tissues are. Just wait to see what happens to them when I’m done with food.

And all the people here seem very happy. Chatting, picking their meat with forks, and laughing. And the sweet smell of an apple pie somewhere is bothering me. The candlelight in this place looks like borrowed sunshine.

Maybe I’d have ended up as a fish. Can’t stop thinking you know. Maybe I’ll be running (oh, swimming) all my life, from boats, from nets, from bigger, fatter fishes with fangs and what not. Can’t image all the fishies I’ve tasted wanting to try and taste me. oh, ow!

It would also have been boring to be a table clothe or a washing machine… oh, wait… there it is! My Carrameell… yum..yumm…

How wobbly, dancing deliciously in the dark brown sea of caramel… and a lone cherry adorns the dish like a hat. The waiter carefully places the dish, as if it were fragile glassware.

And he says… “Enjoy your dinner, sire”

How happy I am! To be born in such an exquisite time of history to be able to discover this delicacy.

My wings are itching to fly! Here I go! Onward!

I hope you enjoyed my little story!
